Summary: After spending years of research and a huge amount of money, an electrical engineer, an accountant and a newsstand owner from Thessaloniki, all of them obsessed with finding lost treasures, manage to perfect a system of tracing precious metals, in order to locate a treasure their friend Stella has told them is hidden somewhere in the city of Kastoria.
As soon as they reach the city, they stop by a coffee shop to discuss. A man sitting at a table next to them wants to join the conversation, claiming he happened to overhear what they said. Although the company from Thessaloniki is at first reluctant, since the man is a local policeman, they are also curious to hear what he has to say.
He tips them off about a huge treasure that’ s about 50 kilos of English gold coins. The problem is he hasn’ t got the proper equipment, so it’ s now a good chance for them to cooperate in order to find the treasure. The men discuss this among them, deciding to exclude Stella from the plan. The policeman’s only condition is to test the equipment first, so he asks them to go by his house the following day and trace something he will have hidden in the yard. If all goes well, he will reveal all the details and they will move on with the plan.
On the same night, the electrical engineer meets with Stella and convinces her that the two of them should move on with her own plan, regardless of what will happen with that of the policeman’s. The next afternoon, the men go to the policeman’s house and get down to work. They comb the yard and finally their equipment locates gold. The policeman congratulates them, assures them that this is where he had hidden the piece of jewelry and they arrange to meet the next day to start looking for the 50-kilo treasure. However, the money is too much, so the three men decide to do away with the policeman.
They show up for their meeting with the policeman, but he never appears; he hasn’t even gone to work. They resolve to look for him at his place, since they can tell by now there’s something wrong. Upon reaching his house, they spot a huge whole where the golden piece of jewelry was supposed to have been buried. The tracks on the soil reveal that a heavy object has been hauled to the house. They break the door and find themselves in front of an empty, rotten case with two gold coins under it. There are clothes missing from the closet and on the bookcase there’s a photograph of Stella in the arms of the policeman.
